India is witnessing again another cheapest 3G Android Smartphone of India in Just Rs 888. A Jaipur-based company is taking bookings for an Android smartphone However, it could be just a repeat of Freedom 251.

The dust around the controversial Freedom 251 has barely settled, and here’s another contender vying to become the cheapest smartphone in India. Jaipur-based Docoss Multimedia Private Limited has launched their first ultra-affordable 3G smartphone called Docoss X1. Priced at just Rs 888, the company promises to deliver the smartphone by May 2 and bookings have already begun on its website. However, all signs suggest this could either be an elaborate scam or the company is very inexperienced.

The company says that one only needs to provide their name, address and pin code to book a Docoss X1 unit. One can either provide the details on the company’s website or send the details via SMS to a hotline number. Docoss has also provided a bunch of customer care numbers for any queries. We tried calling the customer support numbers but all of them were unavailable. None of the links on the website work and almost all of them redirect to the home page.

Even if the Docoss X1 smartphone actually goes on sale for Rs 888, a quick look at the hardware specifications suggests it would be unusable. We would rather recommend buying a sub-Rs 1,000 feature phone than this “smartphone.”

Docoss X1 specifications, features: The smartphone sports a 4-inch IPS display and is powered by a 1.3GHz Cortex-A7 dual-core processor paired with 1GB of RAM. Also on offer is 4GB internal storage, which can be further expanded up to 32GB using a microSD card.

The Docoss X1 also features a 2-megapixel rear camera, VGA selfie camera, and a 1,300mAh battery. Connectivity options include dual-SIM card slots, 3G support, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. On the software front, it runs on Android KitKat 4.4.

After the entire Freedom 251 controversy, it is hard to comment on the authenticity of a Rs 888 3G smartphone. The company’s tagline — ‘Subsay Susta Bhee Subsay Acha Bhee’ — does little to raise confidence in the company or the product.

Freedom 251

Noida-based Ringing Bells garnered a lot of interest for the Freedom 251, which at Rs 251 was the cheapest smartphone in the world. But under the glaring spotlight, the entire Inception-like dream world came crumbling down. Every claim and promise the company made was found to be false, and finally a government investigation found the entire thing to be a ‘Ponzi scam’.
